Poon Hill Trekking is one of the easiest and fascinating treks among others in Nepal. The trekking has been designed for the trekkers eager to enjoy the beauty of mountains, despite having short holidays. This tour package covers a total of 9 days including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu and sightseeing of the most beautiful places around Pokhara. This trekking is an ideal choice for the couples, youths as well as elders. This trek offers an amazing sunrise viewpoint and great glancing angle for the panorama of the mountains.

The nine-day long Poon Hill Trekking has been designed by Mount Fishtail Adventure to offer the experience the amazing views of Dhaulagiri, Mount Manaslu, Annapurna along with the visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

The Mountain View ranging from the Dhaulagiri to Manaslu including Annapurna South, Mount Fishtail, Annapurna I, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Dhampus peak, Gangapurna and several others lure most travelers. Trekking in the spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs, dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque fluted peak of Machhapuchhre (Mount Fishtail) dominating the skyline is a feature of this trek.

Hotel / Accommodations

Three-night accommodations in a star hotel in Kathmandu, 1-night in a star hotel in Pokhara and 8-night stay in the standard teahouse lodges with hygienic latrines and common bathroom in mountains during the trek. You may have to share a bed with a companion during the mountainous trip. But if you need, $ 250 can fetch you single supplement for the whole trip in the mountains.

Food:

You will be served with breakfast during your stay in Kathmandu. All other meals will be provided to you by Mount Fishtail Adventure Pvt Ltd which includes welcome dinner. We provide you with breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the journey. When you are on the mountain, you will be served with local food stuff such as Dal Bhat (gram soup and rice), noodles, Tibetan bread made of buckwheat, spaghettis, soup, salad, hot drinks.

Best time to travel

Spring season (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best time for Poon Hill Trekking.

Although the trip can be done throughout the year, it can be extremely cold with sharp fall in temperature in winter, so it might not be suitable for everyone.

Points to consider

Depending on the time and situation concerning your safety and security your team leader may change the itinerary item.

Although you do not require any technical and physical training for this trek, we suggest you do basic physical training or keep up walking as a preparation since walking in the high elevation can be physically challenging. You are likely to walk 6 to 7 hours a day. Besides that, you will require getting medical advice from a doctor if you have any health defect. You will have to inform us prior to the journey.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1Your arrival Mount Fishtail receives you upon your arrival, from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. After 20 minutes drive (5.9 km), we arrive at hotel in Thamel, a hub for visitors in Nepal. Thamel provides accommodation and shopping centres, keeping in mind, the needs of visitors and guests. After taking rest for a while, we organise a welcome dinner (Traditional Nepali cuisine) and brief the tour programmes.

Day 2Full day sight-seeing around Kathmandu After breakfast we go to Pashupatinath temple, the holiest Hindu temple where the devotees worship “Shiva Linga” the penis of Lord Shiva and vagina of Goddess Parvati in sexual intercourse state. Next, we visit Swoyambhunath Stupa that locates on western outskirts of Kathmandu valley. It is said that Shakyamuni Buddha preached sermon to the local people amid the monkeys at the hill. That is how the place got the name “Monkey temple.” Following the homage, we visit Boudhanath Stupa, the largest spherical stupas in Nepal. We go to Kathmandu Durbar square (UNESCO World Heritage Sites), once one of the principalities among three kingdoms in the valley during the period of Malla dynasty. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 3Luxury drive to Pokhara After breakfast, early in the morning, we travel to Pokhara by luxurious vehicle. It takes about 6-7 hours from Kathmandu. The way to Pokhara is equally enjoyable as the road meanders corresponding to the Trishuli River and the green vegetations all around the hills. We check in hotel, take rest for an hour. We take a walk to Phewa Lake and do boating for an hour. We enjoy the panorama of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 4One hour drive to Nayapul, 3-4 hours trekking to Tikhedhunga (1,540 metres or 5,053 feet) The trip starts at about 8 am after breakfast. Travelling for an hour, we alight from the vehicle at Nayapul, the base for the trekking routes and also the local market. The trail begins with suspension bridge. The green forests and villages scattering among the hills come into view. On the way we take lunch at one of the local restaurants. Crossing a bridge at Birethanti, we continue ascending along the route passing by the waterfalls and meandering together with Bhurungdi River, we arrive at Tikhedhunga, the place to take rest for the night.

Day 56-7 hours trekking to Ghorepani (2,860 metres or 9,384 feet) After breakfast, we ascend along the thousands of steps carved on Ulleri cliff to reach Ghorepani. The path takes a trial of the stamina. The trail also passes through the rhododendron woods with the pleasant view of the brooks. The term Ghorepani means horsewater. The place has settlements of traders who transport the goods on horseback. The morning light illuminates the mountains. The snowy peaks can be viewed from the hotel. The place gives an amazing view point for Annapurna south, Nilgiri Mountains and Dhaulagiri range including other peaks. The night at Ghorepani.

Day 6Ghorepani to Poon Hill (3,210 metres or 10,532 feet), the destination, descend to Hile (6-7 hours) Early in the morning, we get ready to scale Poon Hill. The trail passes through the thick woods of rhododendron. In about an hour, we arrive at the Poon Hill view point. Scenery from here appears like in the dream. The closer view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges including other 20 highest mountains is marvellous. Sun light illuminates the snowy mountains. The spot at the Poon Hill gives an amazing view of Pokhara in the south east and Mustang in the north. We come back to the hotel for breakfast and halt to take rest. Next, we make an overnight stay at Hile.

Day 73 hours hike to Nayapul and one hour drive to Pokhara (800 metres or 2,625 feet) After breakfast, we walk up to Nayapul via Birethanti, a village, also the concurrent point for various trekking routes in the region. The river in the locality provides the delicious fishes in abundance. After lunch, we arrive at Nayapul and take vehicle to Pokhara. After taking rest and shopping in Pokhara, we enjoy the nightlife of Pokhara.

Day 8Sightseeing around Pokhara and flight to Kathmandu After breakfast in the morning, we visit Mahendra cave and Davis Fall which are among the popular attractions in Pokhara. After taking rest, we fly to Kathmandu in the afternoon which takes about 40 minutes. The flight gives an opportunity to observe the mountains closely. The day is for taking rest and exploring about nearby places. We enjoy the night in Kathmandu.
